Greetings Science Educator,

We see some of you are on Spring Break and traveling! Whatever your plans, enjoy your well-earned break. Be sure to stay in contact. We love seeing your photos and hearing your news. We have some new things in store for you, as well. Watch for our announcements this spring.

                                                                                      — Heather, Tim, & Diane

It’s Pi Day – Infinite Apple, Cherry or Blueberry? What’s your choice?

We’re having pie to celebrate Pi Day before heading to NSTA in Denver next week. Will you be there? We’ll be modeling with a whopping 13 sessions in Room 503! We can’t promise pie, but we know you’ll find it all engaging. We suspect, though, that our presenters may have a favorite session or two.

Tim Herman’s is no surprise, “It’s Modeling Infection & Immunity: From Cells to Molecules because I get to talk about the new materials we’re developing for our new course.” (He’s not supposed to give too much away, but he can’t wait to show off his new toys.)

“I always look forward to presenting the Biotechnology Kit©. It offers so much flexibility and allows you to be creative, crafting your lesson to student interest. This session, Biotech Breakthrough! Biotechnology Accessibility Through 3D Models and Design Challenges will be looking at restriction enzymes and how scientists modified them to increase sequence specificity, customizing a zinc finger nuclease to knock out a cancer gene," noted Mark (Arnie) Arnholt.

“I am looking forward to presenting Genes Unraveled--Modeling Inheritance Mysteries. Learners will model several modes of inheritance using several single-point mutations as case studies. We'll compare different expressions of dominance (complete dominance, co-dominance, and incomplete dominance) using the Chromosome Connections Kit©. I hope this topic is timely for teachers as they close out their year studying Mendelian and non-Mendelian genetics,” Ruth Hutson shared.

Don’t forget to come to Booth 719 for your ribosome model and to sample our new Digital Modeling Hub. See you in Denver!

Pi Day 2024

Get Hands-On During Modeling the Molecular World!

Our NSTA sessions will give you a taste of Modeling the Molecular World, where you’ll learn from the designers of the kits you love! Teachers tell us the week-long course transformed their teaching – and their students’ learning. We are holding two sessions in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, July 29 - August 2 or August 5 - August 9, and one in Stockton, California, July 15 - 19. By completing Modeling the Molecular World, you’ll be eligible for:

  • Our grant-funded courses
  • Model Teacher Program
  • SMART Team Program
  • Three graduate credits through the San Joaquin Teachers College (for a small additional fee).

Best, you’ll be taking $900 worth of kits and models back to your classroom with you! Hurry to register, while hotel rooms are still available.
