Applications are now open, so make your plans to model with us next summer.

MMW 2023 - Modeling Phospholipids

"I attended a 3DMD session at a science teacher conference, where I was able to get my hands on a physical model of enzymes that simply, but elegantly, taught a week’s worth of lessons on enzyme-catalyzed reactions in 10 minutes. Immediately following the session, I sat in the hallway and furiously signed up to attend professional development in Milwaukee. So many of my core identities as a teacher - storytelling, physical models, 3D printing, and more - stem from what I have learned in my repeat visits to 3DMD."

- 3DMD Model Teacher Alan Allmen, Whitney Young High School

Science Spotlight

Barbara McClintock, PhD, won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1983 for the many discoveries she made over her career, including genetic transposition. As a scientist and cytogeneticist for Cornell University, she developed a technique for visualizing chromosomes through her research on maize. Some of her accomplishments include creating the first genetic map of maize and showing how the telomere and centromere regions of the chromosome conserve genetic information. While she conducted her research during the late 1920s through the 1950s, much of it wasn't understood and accepted by other scientists until the 1960s and 1970s when other scientists could finally confirm it. Read more about her persistence through having others doubt her work on the Nobel Prize website.

Make Chromosomes Come to Life for Your Students!

Show your students the genetic concepts Barbara McClintock discovered using the Chromosome Connections Kit©! With this kit, students explore chromosomes at the microscopic and molecular levels, making the concepts of mitosis and meiosis more meaningful and easier to understand. Explore the cell cycle, cell division, and genetics of chromosomes so your students can discover what a chromosome is through modeling.
