Take 3D Printing Into Your Classroom!

3D printing is a fascinating technology that we want to share with you! Learn how to build 3D models using your school's 3D printers with the one-day 3D Printing for the Biosciences Classroom course. Taking place on the days after Modeling the Molecular World, July 1st and 22nd, Mark Hoelzer, MFA, our Director of Material Development, will teach you everything you need to know to bring 3D printing into your classroom. New Partnership Award Announcement

We're excited to announce that 3D Molecular Designs was awarded a 5-year National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA)! This grant allows us to develop classroom materials and professional learning courses focused on infectious diseases. Read the full announcement on our website and get involved in this research project by joining us for Modeling the Molecular World. Attendance of this annual course is required for participation in 2024's advanced SEPA course, and we want you to be there with us!

Science Spotlight

Flossie Wong-Staal, PhD, was a Chinese-American virologist and molecular biologist who greatly enhanced our knowledge of HIV and AIDS. She was the first researcher able to clone HIV and determine the function of its genes. This breakthrough led to the first genetic map of the virus and the development of blood tests for HIV. Her work saved thousands of lives as early detection through blood tests allows people to manage their viral load more effectively, which keeps them healthy and prevents the spread of the virus. Sadly, Wong-Staal passed away from pneumonia complications on July 8, 2020, but her discoveries will forever impact those who can now live with HIV.

Stimulate Student Thinking!

Students will discover how electrical and chemical signals allow us to move, breathe, and think with the Synapse Construction Kit©. Have students model the typical processes of neuron function and analyze where those processes can break down. Use representations of nicotine, cocaine, sarin gas, and propofol on neuronal signaling to predict the molecular and organismal response.
