The First Session is a Wrap! 

We hosted the first Modeling the Molecular World session of the summer last week, where attendees enjoyed a five-day journey that deepened their understanding of molecular biology by exploring the kits and models. Engaging with each educator and watching them make connections with their cohort is always fantastic. We hope to share this experience with you in future sessions next year! Science Spotlight

Fred Chang, MD, PhD, is a cell biologist who researches cell growth, shape, and size by studying the cell processes that sense and regulate the size of the cell and its nucleus. Chang and his lab at the University of California San Francisco look at how cells regulate the growth and development of microtubules, one of the proteins responsible for cell division, by exploring macromolecular crowding and the regulation of fluid density in the cell and nucleus. He hopes to determine how density influences cell processes like division. Chang also serves as the co-chair of the LGBTQ+ committee at the American Society of Cell Biology.
