We love exploring the power of modeling in the classroom with everyone and are already looking forward to next year.

Welcome to Milwaukee, Educators!

The second session of Modeling the Molecular World of the summer is happening this week! It's fantastic to gather with teachers from across the country and share ideas on improving students' learning experiences. Plus, we love welcoming more passionate educators to the 3D Molecular Designs family. If you couldn't join us this summer, we look forward to seeing you in Milwaukee for next year's Modeling the Molecular World and our grant-supported Infectious Disease courses!

3DMD Model Teachers Andrew Taylor and Tracy Swedlund returned to learn and support Modeling the Molecular World this summer. Both have attended previous courses but were excited to come back to continue modeling with us. Their presence was so helpful and supportive to the new educators during these courses. We are lucky to have had their experience with modeling with us this summer. Thank you!

Science Spotlight

David Liu, PhD, is a molecular biochemist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard whose research integrates chemistry and evolution to illuminate biology and enable next-generation therapeutics. The goal of the Liu Lab is three-fold:

  • Learning more about basic cellular function through the discovery, synthesis, delivery, and testing of small bioactive molecules
  • Harnessing the power of biological evolution to create proteins using a process called phage-assisted continuous evolution (PACE)
  • Developing new genome editing techniques

These goals combine for the ultimate goal of discovering how to use genome-editing proteins to treat genetic diseases. Watch Dr. Liu give a TED Talk about the potential of curing genetic diseases by rewriting a person's DNA by clicking the below image. In developing our Making the Cut with CRISPR-Cas9©, 3D Molecular Designs referenced Dr. Liu's and Dr. Jennifer Dounda's research for this kit.
