Plan Your Trip to The Fresh Coast City This Summer!
Spring may have sprung in Milwaukee this week, but we've got this summer on our minds. Modelingthe Molecular World is a weeklong course full of hands-on modeling that will keep you busy when you're here in Milwaukee; however, we highly recommend you take time to explore this beautiful city of ours! There are great historic attractions, delicious food and drinks, plus the amazing Milwaukee Art Museum on the lakefront. Come for the modeling, but don't forget you'll be able to enjoy this great city for a week! Do you have a colleague that may be interested in joining you in Milwaukee? We're offering reduced course fees if multiple teachers from the same school attend Modeling the Molecular World. Check out the details here.
Science Spotlight
David Baker is a biochemist and computational biologist who developed new methods for predicting and designing the 3D structures of proteins. David and his research group, the Baker Lab at the Institute for Protein Design at the University of Washington, developed the Rosetta algorithm for ab initio protein structure prediction, which is an attempt to predict protein structures based only on sequence information without using templates. This research has been vital to the development of new proteins we can use to combat challenges in medicine. The below photo shows him posing with custom models we designed and made based off of his research!
