Science Spotlight

Daniel Alfonso Colón-Ramos, PhD, is an associate professor who runs the Colón-Ramos Lab at the Yale School of Medicine. His lab focuses on how synapses assemble precisely to build the neuronal architecture underlying human behavior. They developed tools in the thermotaxis circuit of C. elegans which enables unbiased genetic screens. This allows them to identify novel pathways that instruct synaptogenesis in vivo and single-cell manipulation of these pathways to understand how they influence behavior. A native Puerto Rican, Dr. Colón-Ramos also works to increase access to science through initiatives like Ciencia Puerto Rico, a non-profit organization that promotes scientific research and education in Puerto Rico.
