Developing a Molecular Perspective
We would like students to shift their thinking from the macroscopic world in which they live, to the molecular world, where impossibly small molecular structures (proteins) are assembling into molecular machines that carry out essential cellular processes like DNA replication, gene expression, protein synthesis, immunological protection, and more.
Life Is Complicated
We are fortunate to be teaching biology in 2024, when hundreds of instructional videos are freely accessible via the internet, explaining how molecular processes work. But given the complexity of the molecular stories that are described in these videos, young students are often overwhelmed and never come to appreciate the beauty of the molecular world.
Fortunately, Models Give Meaning to Words
3D Molecular Designs is pioneering the use of physical models of proteins and other molecular structures to make this invisible molecular world meaningful to students. An otherwise confusing molecular story becomes meaningful when students manipulate a physical model of the protein that is being shown in a video, illustrated by a schematic graphic, or described in other formats.
