Science Spotlight

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, PhD, is a Nobel Prize winning structural biologist famous for his research on the structure and function of ribosomes. He generated a 3D model that showed how different antibiotics bind to the ribosome to help develop new advances in medical research. 3D Molecular Designs printed a ribosome model based on Ramakrishnan’s research, which we presented to him and researcher John Atkins, PhD, when we visited them in the UK in 2019. It now resides beside a replica model Watson and Crick created of DNA at the entrance to the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge University in the UK!

CRISPR Investigations in the Classroom

Your students will discover the role of the Cas9 protein in defending against bacteriophages with engaging foam pieces and chenille bacteriophage in the CRISPR Adaptive Immunity Kit©. Don't forget to access teaching guides and student handouts on our CRISPR Adaptive Immunity Kit© Classroom Resources page. Students can then transfer their knowledge to the current genetic engineering design solutions when they use Making the Cut with CRISPR-Cas9©.
